绿厅（中央大厅）是连接世博中心东部集会交流与西部展览活动两大区域的核心部位，也被誉为“绿意盎然的公园式大厅”。建筑面积2700平方米，可以容纳1500人参加各类活动、演出。
走进绿厅，首先映入眼帘的是安装于大堂北侧“从天而降”的LED大屏，上面可以滚动播放各类宣传片、效果图等视频信息和各类字幕信息，清晰度极高。这块LED大屏在举行文娱表演、派对演出等活动时，可以变身为舞台背景，放映的效果不逊色于专业影院。
大堂西侧超过500平方米的大型生态垂直绿墙，种植着吊兰、蕨类等多种常绿植物。生态绿墙前，世界独一无二的30米的室内水幕信息墙倾泻而出，不时变化出“世博中心欢迎您”的字样，令绿色大厅形神兼备。中庭顶部设置了可开启天窗，为中庭举办各类活动提供了充足的采光。
在中国2010年上海世博会期间，绿厅（中央大厅）承担了247个国家和地区组织的191场国家馆日（荣誉日）活动，7万余人次出席。吴邦国、温家宝、贾庆林和习近平等71批97位中国党和国家领导人，美国国务卿希拉里、俄罗斯总统梅德韦杰夫、德国总统克勒、英国约克公爵安德鲁王子等外国政府首脑89批，103人次参加了绿厅举行的各类活动。
The central hall is located on the first floor. It covers an area of 2700 square meters and adopts 7-layer see-through design. With openable skylights, penetrating outer walls are brighter and equipped with a vertical garden space of 500 square meters. The halls not only endows people with the ability of seeing all the scenes in the neighborhood, but coexists with riverside green space and the Huangpu River harmoniously, highlighting each other’s beauty, and realizing the perfect transition of modern style to natural shapes. The LED screen of the center hall has an area of 380 square meters and is currently the largest indoor LED screen in the country. During the Would Expo, it was function as the performance site for national pavilion day activity.
